So what does “Blue Jeans” have to do with eating? A lot. Today is a good day. I changed my eating habits about 2 months ago. Today I can celebrate: I can finally wear my Levi’s 501 again. I haven’t been able to wear those without looking ridiculous for about 2 years I think. They are still a close fit but today I will wear them to work. I have only been working for one year and of course nobody there has ever seen me wear blue jeans. Maybe someone will ask 🙂
I lost 6-7kg in the last 8 weeks and if only I had known how easy it was I might have been this happy much earlier. I never ever thought I had the discipline for this.
I didn’t feel this good for such a long time.
How it happened? I am not even sure myself? I was gorging myself on sweets, ice cream and tons of food a lot of it junk food but even more of it cooked by myself. I am rather a good cook or so MourningDragon says, so guess where I gained all the weight? I am a ‘stress eater’ and I am easily stressed out.
Then my hip started hurting. I went to the doctor, he said “Your hip is not hurting because of your weight but still you really need to loose some. You are still young, it shouldn’t be a problem. You don’t even need to hurry, just get rid of the hurt in your hip and afterwards get rid of the weight. But do it.” I nearly cried at that speech. I wasn’t able to go to work afterwards.
Somehow that doctor hit the spot.
A few days earlier I had started to write down what I eat and measure my weight each day. Just the week-end before I had cooked for the gamers some nice Pasta Bolognese. That day I had eaten 3000 calories!!! This shocked me to some degree.
So after I had talked to the doctor, I talked to my Mom. She gave me several of her low-fat/diet/…. cook books. One of the cook books was for a 1000 calorie diet. 1000 is one third of 3000. Ouch. I looked through that book and knew I could never ever follow any strict diet. I looked throught the atkins type of diet and some other approaches. I learned my part from each and then I simply changed my eating habits.
So far it works.
I am writing down what I eat each day and learn which foods are good and which are calorie traps to be avoided. I am still eating a bit of chocolate or other sweets. I am also trying not to use preprocessed foods as much as I can in today’s world. Trying to eat healthy things and get all the vitamins and minerals I need. I guess my type of diet ist the ‘computer scientists’ approach. It is a bit like a game sometimes to match the needs exactly. I don’t usually because it is terribly hard to eat all the right things.
And I have to repeat: this is no diet! I intend to keep eating like this forever. Maybe a tad bit more once I reached my weight goal but despite eating different the food doesn’t taste worse.
So today I am going to work in my blue jeans.
